Are you a traveler seeking adventure in unique bed and breakfasts? One Minnesota B&B will transport you back into medieval times.

If you are looking for everything Viking, you will be hard-pressed to find anything more fanatic than this very unique and unforgettable B&B. Usually "B&B" stands for "Bed and Breakfast". Not here. It stands for "Brew and Bed". Let that be a clear indication of the "spirited" ambiance you will find. Nestled in the tiny town of Crosby, Minnesota (population 2,250), the Nordic Inn is famous for its Scandinavian style pale ale and dark brew served in large stone-like mugs. Bellied up to the bar, you are often invited to sport some of the old Viking garb lying around the old Methodist church turned Medieval Inn. But don't expect to pay in dollars because you will need to trade those in for kroner. This, of course, is the unit of currency the Vikings used.

The Crazy Viking

Perhaps even more intriguing than the B & B itself is the man behind the idea. Steinarr Elmerson is essentially the one-man band who lives, cooks, bartends, and entertains there. He is not a quiet man by any means, as his rustic Viking look and booming voice are exactly what comes to mind when you think of "Viking". He peppers his guests with medieval stories and endless jokes (often of the adult nature...no "knock knocks" here). If you are easily offended, this may not be the place for you.

A Medieval Feast Of Mighty Portions

You will not go hungry at the Nordic Inn, as Steinarr cooks for a Viking's appetite. In addition to quantity, the quality is impressive. Meat and potatoes are offered up, as well as some interesting side-dishes. A hearty breakfast may leave you headed out the door with a doggy-bag full of pecan pie. The food certainly seems to be a big part of the experience. And if the house is full, you can request a dinner show portraying Viking mythology. All feast, no famine here.

The Viking Ship RoomThe rooms are not modern or luxurious, but they are certainly conversation pieces. From a Minnesota Vikings locker room to a room fit for a Medieval king, each of the five rooms holds its own story and style. Most memorable is the room situated in a loft where your bed is built into the body of a Viking's ship, which hangs from the rafters above the dining/bar area. Obviously, if privacy is something you might want, do not book this room!

A Unique B&B ExperienceThe world is made up of many kinds of travelers. Some want peace and quiet, others want a worldly experience. If you are the latter of the two, this is a place you are likely to enjoy. The Nordic Inn was featured on the Travel Channel for a show on unique bed and breakfasts. It is truly a place you will not soon forget.
